SAMOS CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
During the hegemony of Samos island, in the year 1897, the General Assembly of the Samians ratified the Article establishing the Chambers of Commerce in the municipalities of Samos. On March 31st 1988, 91 years later, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Samos and the Chamber of Professionals and Small & Medium Industries of Samos merged by presidential decree.
The Samos Chamber of Commerce acts as an advisory body to the State and to its members with the objective of promoting development activity in the region and to protect trade, manufacturing and the service industries, in accordance with the interests of the national economy.
The regions under the jurisdiction of the Samos Chamber of Commerce, by law, are the islands of Samos, Ikaria and Fournoi.
The registry consists of 4,400 member - companies distributed in the Commerce, Manufacturing, Tourism and Services Sectors.
The Samos Chamber of Commerce puts forward recommendations to stakeholders vis a vis transport, taxation, social security and development. The Chamber, also contributes to the smooth operation of the General Trade Registry and the “One Stop Shop” program. The Chamber is active in the support and promotion of local products, business and tourism. This support and promotion is manifested in events such as wine festivals, Ireon Music Festival, the Irean - Pythagorean international conferences, gastronomic events and advertisements.
The Chamber organizes workshops and educates its members in technical safety, food hygiene and other vital areas. It implements European projects and takes a leading role in advertising campaigns created to support local products and businesses with commercials on television and radio.
It is on the island of Samos that the famous muscat wines are produced, a product with designation of origin and with countless awards. Also well-known are the Samian tomaccini, ouzo, herbs, unique orchids, honey, award-winning olive oil, Samian cheeses, the famous pottery including Pythagoras’ cup of fairness, the traditional olive oil soap and many other traditional products produced mainly by family businesses.
The leading economy of Samos and Ikaria islands is the tourist industry, with companies including hotels, rooms and apartments, shops, restaurants and entertainment companies, car and bike rentals, folk art shops, water sports companies and other forms of alternative tourism.

Samos is especially famous for its wines, whether they be red, white or sweet. White Muscat holds a prominent position in the vineyards of Samos, taking up 95% of almost 4,400 acres devoted to viticulture on the island. Refer to the Special Section on Greek Wine Production by EDOAO.
