Corfu Chamber of Commerce

The Kerkyra (Corfu) Chamber of Commerce & Industry was founded on September 15, 1851, in accordance with the constituent instrument of the Regional Council, as the Chamber of Commerce under British protection of the Ionian State. Following the union of the Ionian Islands with Greece on May 21, 1864, the legal status of the Chamber changed on June 6, 1865 and established the Chamber of Commerce of Corfu as a Chamber of the Greek State (Decree 23-30 / 5/1836).

In 1919, by authorization of Law. 184/1914, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Corfu (EVEK) was founded. In 1925, by authorization of Law. 3305/25, the Commercial and Industrial Chambers of Trades and Crafts (EVEK) was established. From 1988, after the merger of the two Chambers, it has operated as the Corfu Chamber (P.D. 153 - Government Gazette 67 / 12.04.1988).

Based on the rules of procedure (P.D. 446/1990 - Government Gazette 171 / A / 14.12.90), the Chamber is structured in a sole Division consisting of two Departments and one Office:

• Department of Commerce and Professionals Affairs

• Department of Management and Economics

• Registry Office and Software Applications.

By decision of the Board, according to P.D. 153 and in accordance with its activities, the following departments have been created for the needs of its members, amounting to about 16,000: Commerce, Manufacturing, Tourism and Services.

Today, the Chamber is an information conduit, informing members about development, investment and financial programs and performs studies on trends in the national economy and ultimately submits proposals.

Also, the Chamber submits proposals — of an advisory nature— regarding the trade, manufacturing and service sectors. The Chamber, through committees, participates in the planning of infrastructure projects and the promotion and development of trade, manufacturing, services-- and in general-- encourages increased production and productivity.

Additionally, the Chamber works to continuously improve services. This effort aims to foster sustainability through quality service, knowledge, innovation (‘smart growth’) and human resources, all to modernize and ameliorate services.

Finally, the Chamber continues to advocate for competitive companies, products, and services in a healthy socio-economic environment.
