Chania Chamber of Commerce

With approximately 16,000 members in all economic sectors, Chania is one of the largest Chambers of Greece. It exists to protect and develop the commercial, industrial, professional, services and exports sectors.

The Chania Chamber is a founding member of:

• The Development Society of Crete, which manages and implements community business programs.

• The Chambers Group for the Development of Greek Isles (E.O.A.E.N.), established for the development of island regions and their businesses.

• The Greek Chambers Transport Association (EESYM) ) a body that seeks to develop and advance Greek transportation networks.

The institutional role is significant in a prefecture that contributes 1.3% to the Gross Domestic Product of the country. Of this, 84% comes from trade and services, with a considerable tourism sector contribution.

In the primary sector (agriculture - livestock), the prefecture’s main products are: olive oil, citrus, wine, vegetables, cheese, honey and bakery products. In recent years a great interest has developed in the organic - biological cultivation and standardization of such products. The Chamber has also done important work in the field of Product Certification, including Geographical Origin and Designation of Origin.

In the secondary sector (industry - crafts), economic activity concentrates on the food and beverage industry, the lumber and construction industry.

The tertiary sector (services) employs the majority of the population. This sector mainly deals with the hotel and tourism services and trade. In recent years, new investments and innovations have surfaced, with an emphasis on new tourism avenues such as rural tourism, conference tourism, etc.).

At the Chania Chamber, members can learn about public service announcements regarding supplies and services and seek information from foreign commercial guides to obtain business listings and learn about various government agencies and services (for example securing trademark export promotion agency services, ISO quality certificates and so on).
